Bronze casting workshop - October 18, 19, and November 8
9:00am to 4:00pm
Cost: $25 for members, $40 for non-members, free for junior members with paid parent or guardian. Material fee $100 each if we have 2-4 students, and $80 each with 5 or more students. Class size is 2 minimum, 8 maximum
Leaders: Michael Simmons
About the class:
Do you know what petro bond sand, green sand, a casting flask, a drag or a sprue is? You will learn all this and cast some bronze parts in this three day class. The morning of the first day will be learning about the furnace, how to make a pattern, molding and how to pour hot metal and finish off the casting using hand and power tools. In the afternoon each student will cast a part. The second and third day will be advanced casting techniques and then open casting.
Bronze casting is inherently dangerous so you will need a long sleeve shirt, eye protection and leather shoes. You may want to bring a face shield, welder’s gloves and welder’s apron or use the ones provided by the shop. Please leave the polyester clothes at home.
